PostSubject: Would headers make my car too loud?   Tue May 20, 2008 3:44 pm

Found a set of Bassani headers really cheap. Like, retardedly cheap. Like there's no way in hell anyone with a brain can pass this deal up.

BUT, I'm worried if I go for it, my car will be stupid loud and more obnoxious than it already is. Now I'm not saying I don't want it to be louder, I just don't think the local (or any) police department does.

My current setup is a Pypes O/R X and Flowmaster 40's. I'd be fine with a change in tone, but a change in volume I'm afraid of.

Ask him for me Razz

Also ask him how much he's going to charge me to put 'em on if I buy 'em.

But ask him the volume question first, because if you ask him the install price first he'll say they're going to make my car quieter. bounce

To install would be $250 for the headers provided there aren't any problems.

Shorty's would give you a more "raw" sound and long-tubes would be louder and raunchy.

If you want, you can come hear my Mustang. It'll sound pretty much like mine. It's at the house if you wanna come check it out.

headers will make is slightly louder then what you have, and change the tone. note that long tubes require a different mid pipe then what you have. Shorties probably dont.

It wont be ridiculously louder. Are they used? Maybe theyre so cheap cuz the flanges are warped and theyre never gonna seal right. Be careful of that.

They're mid-length. I assume that means they're somewhere between shorties and longtube. http://www.lmperformance.com/19344/50.html Same thing. Should fit with my current X pipe no?

They're new.

im pretty sure u need that bassani power x crossover with converters...altho john has exhaust skills, so it may be much cheaper for him to just make what you have work

I looked up some stuff on the Power X, it says it bolts up to the OEM stuff. So in theory everything should fit.
http://www.bassani.com/xy/
"Power X Crossovers are used to connect our Headers or OEM Manifolds, to stock or Bassani AFT-CAT exhaust system with true dual mufflers."

Considering anything Bassani makes requires stupid amounts of money (The O/R Power X is like $450!) If it doesn't fit right, I'd rather pay John a less stupid amount of money to make what I have work.

Yeaaaa...I'd say bring whatcha got over to the shop. He would wanna see it. He could definitely make it work. Gonna be bringin my Mustang over to the shop soon to start doin engine work Razz

I have Pypes headers on it. John picked them up at the E-town swap meet a couple years ago for $50! Car sounds great! Yea, Kev is right about that. You gotta really be careful when you find stuff cheap like that. There may be gasket surface damage, warping, a tiny crack somewhere (that can always be welded), etc.

not to bring this one up again. but shorties have been proven to add no HP from everything ive read in the mustang magazines. Sad

And if you think $450 is alot from bassani look at the price of S197 stuff. Longtubes from kooks are like $1500 with the crossover

yea i know it doesnt add performance, but hell looks alone is worth it, rather then those nasty looking stock ones. Plus i heard how they sounds and they do give it a very nice tone. I'd def. go for longtubes but i might as well never go to inspection again, even a paid place.

Speaking of gains, these headers aren't really going to do anything but look shiny, right?

To update this thread:

I'm mostlikely picking these up next weekend.

Also:
http://www.svt4u2try.com/Mystuff/Mustang_FAQ/exhaust.htm
"These headers are a mix between shortys and long tubes. The only company that manufactures these headers is Bassani. The install time takes around 6 hours. Mid length headers either need Bassani’s matching mid pipe or have a standard mid pipe cut and welded to fit by a muffler shop. Mid length headers produce similar (but not exact) HP and TQ numbers as long tubes while allowing ground clearance with a lowered vehicle."

So I assume they aren't going to fit with the X I have, so my X will have to be cut.
Which means the install would cost more, right Steph?

And so due to that I'll be driving around with the headers in the trunk for a few weeks longer 'till I save up the money for the install tongue

You might see a little gain, but you can't take advantage of them until you do tuning, cams, etc. and stuff like that.

And, yes, the install will cost more if John has to cut n hack.

4.10's and tuning come after this, I think. But that's a ways off.

It's hard to balance mods, gas, food, and cigs. when I only make $100 a week.
